Referral and Fee Information

  • Investing in your mental health is an investment in your overall wellbeing. When you prioritise your emotional wellbeing, you build the insight, skills, and resilience needed to manage challenges, improve relationships, and enjoy life. Therapy offers a supportive space to better understand your experiences, develop practical tools for change, and create lasting improvements that support not just how you feel now, but how you live moving forward.

  • At Oak + Sage Psychology we have an interest in working with clients aged 18+ experiencing anxiety-related concerns (including excessive worry, panic attacks, perfectionism, phobias, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and stress), and trauma. We also specialise in working with clients who have chronic health concerns (such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and autoimmune conditions), as well as hormonal and reproductive health concerns (e.g., PCOS, PMDD, endometriosis), and perinatal concerns (e.g., postnatal anxiety and depression). We work affirmingly with LGBTQ+ and neuro-diverse clients.

At this time, we are unable to provide therapy for concerns related to psychosis, eating disorders, or drug and alcohol use, and encourage individuals seeking support in these areas to contact a specialist service.

We are unable to offer services related to WorkCover, insurance claims, psycho-legal assessments, court reports, mediation, or Disability Support Pension (DSP) eligibility.

  • Sessions are $250 per 50-minute session. You may be eligible for a rebate to reduce the out-of-pocket cost to yourself. Please see below regarding Medicare and private health rebates.

All fees are required to be paid in full within five days of your appointment. Future appointments may be cancelled if there is an outstanding unpaid invoice.

Please note we do not offer bulk-billed appointments.

  • You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate if you obtain a referral from a GP or psychiatrist under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. The current Medicare rebate for sessions with a clinical psychologist is $145.25. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan then your total out-of-pocket cost will be $104.75 per session.

To ensure you’re eligible for this rebate your Mental Health Treatment Plan must be in place prior to your first appointment. To obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be required to make an appointment with your treating general practitioner (GP) or Psychiatrist and request a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. The full fee is to be paid in full at the end of your session. Your Medicare rebates will then be processed online, and the rebate will be transferred to your nominated bank account that you have linked with Medicare. In most instances, the rebate appears in your bank account within 24 hours.

If you do not have your bank details listed with Medicare, it will be important to register your bank details so your rebate can be processed. If Medicare does not have your bank details, it can result in significant delays in obtaining your rebate.

We understand that the referral process can be confusing, so if you’d like more information on how to obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan and how they work, have a read of our blog titled ‘How to Seek Psychology Support in Australia: Your Options Explained’ found here.

  • Private Health rebates will differ depending on your individual policy. It is recommended that you check with your Private Health Provider to discuss what rebates you may be eligible for. If you meet eligibility for a private health rebate, you will pay for your session in full, then will be provided with a paid invoice that you can submit to your Private Health Provider to claim your rebate.

  • You do not require a referral to obtain therapy sessions. You are able to self-fund and self-refer. Self-funded referrals are not restricted to the number of sessions that can be accessed per year. The full fee is to be paid in full at the end of the session with no rebate.

  • We can provide psychological/therapy services to NDIS participants who are Self-Managed or Plan-Managed. We are unable to provide psychological services to participants with funds managed by NDIA.

Fees for Self-Managed and Plan-Managed NDIS participants are charged in accordance with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits Guide.

  • If you need to cancel or reschedule, we kindly ask for at least 2 business days’ (48 hours) notice.

    • Late Cancellation Fee (less than 48 hours' notice): $100

    • Non-attendance: Full session fee applies

Please be aware that you are personally responsible for any cancellation fees. Unfortunately, Medicare does not allow for rebates to cover cancellation fees and you will not be able to access a Medicare rebate for a non-attended session.
