Meet Dr Kristy Johnstone, PhD.
Hi, I’m Kristy (she/her) and I’m a clinical psychologist based in Adelaide, South Australia. Through my years of experience working across private practice, government settings, and non-for-profit organisations, I’ve developed a particular interest in working with anxiety, trauma, chronic health conditions, hormonal and reproductive health conditions, and perinatal concerns. Many people I work with feel overwhelmed, trapped in their thoughts, or frustrated that their body and mind don’t seem to be cooperating, no matter how hard they try. You may seem like you’re coping from the outside but inside your mind can’t switch off. You may also be wondering whether therapy will help, or how to find the right support. It’s a lot, but you don’t have to do it alone.
My approach to therapy is warm, gentle, and collaborative, and I aim to create a space where clients feel truly heard and supported. Together, we can focus on developing practical coping skills that actually fit your life, reducing your distress, and making sustainable change so you can improve your wellbeing and move towards a more balanced and fulfilling life. My practice integrates evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and Schema Therapy, with sessions tailored to meet your individual needs. I am proud to provide an LGBTQ+-friendly and neurodiverse-affirming service.
I am also a Board-approved supervisor and can provide professional supervision to registrars and early-career psychologists seeking thoughtful, supportive guidance as they develop their practice. I offer supervision with a particular focus on child and adolescent work, anxiety, and trauma; integrating evidence-based approaches with a reflective, collaborative style. More information on supervision can be found here.
